Every decision is based on “will this help me take out an enemy before they get a turn?” The risk averse nature of this gameplay characteristic permeates every decision the player makes and frankly it's boring and monotonous. This lessons is reinforced early to players with seemingly successful missions with zero KIA resulting in a restart because you just can’t field a team due to injuries. Unfortunately, this doesn’t happen because literally every decision regarding enemies is “kill it before it touches me”

That tree doesn’t block me if I’m using it for cover why would it block me if I’m a couple spaces behind it?Įnvironmental explosions. Line of Sight should not be blocked by single tile objects. I should know for each visible enemy on the battlefield why I cannot target it. Weapon ranges – mine and visible enemies. Which abilities will be active? Which enemies will be attackable? Can I get to the evac zone next turn if I stay there? I need more data about a tile I’m moving to before I move to it. I’m managing 6 guys here and I have to manually tab through to find this every time. It should be obvious on the UI which soldiers have yet to take their turn. But it infuriates me every time I play seeing design decisions that don’t match it’s peers and don’t make the game better.
